fuel economy

Think that fuel mileage is measured more correctly against odometer readings which can be verified pretty close with GPS, rather than calculating mileage by speedometer readings.

Another item that used to be overlooked was how much better mileage per gallon we get North of the border. :)

I average 20 mpg with my rig...8 on the coach, 32 on the toad....I use the same formula the car companies use...:B:B..YMMV..Dennis

We use our motorhome many, many hours while it's sitting in the back yard. It's MPG there is infinite.

We also use our motorhome at other camp spots a few weeks per year. It gets 9-10 MPG to get to these.

.... so our MPG is approaching infinity.

I have 3 speedometers, 1 on the dash, 1 in Garmen, 1 in ScanGauge. They all read MPH different. I check them using the mile marker post. One would thing the GPS would be the most accurate. But it's not, the ScanGauge is right on.

My dash speedometer reads low compared to GPS and Scangauge. I still use the dash readings for fuel mileage. Reason for difference. Changed tires from 225 to 245's. Scangauge shows 20 more miles on a 400 mile run.

If your speedometer reads low or high so does your odometer. It is easy to calibrate and determine just how far out it is and nowadays most of us also have a GPS which will be very accurate. Throw in a Scan Gauge (you DO have Scan Gauge, right?), :S for good measure and you will have more accuracy then you will know what to do with. :B

We consistently, over just about any terrain, get 10 or better on the highway doing 60 and average 9.5+ for the overall trips in our 24' C with the 6.8L V-10. :C

There's also the on-board generator which will throw off MPG calculations if used much. It'll also make MPG comparisons of gassers to diesel units with LP generators somewhat inaccurate, favoring the diesel.

Where does the scan gauge get it's info, it probably comes from the computer, which gets its info from the vehicle speed sensor, which is the same place the speedometer gets its info, unless it has old school speedo cable, than the VSS is mounted on the cable assembly. What I'm trying to say is the scan gauge reading should be the same as your speedometer, because the info comes from the same place.

Scangauge II has adjustments to read proper MPH and mileage.
