Fueling DP is SLOWWWWW

HELP!! I've read a lot of post on this subject but most of them are older. I'm hoping something new has come up or someone has a trick for me to try...I have 2003 DP with duel fillers. It holds 100 gallons. I've only filled up twice so far but haven't been able to get it completely full either time. I get to what I think is about 10-15 gallons from full and lose patience! At somewhere around 85 gallons it will click off and get the burp. This using the car lanes and slowest fill speed. From there, it will take me another 20-30 minutes to get 5 or 6 more gallons...it foams up and backs up the filler tube even when I manually pump at the slowest speed I can get it to come out. I've tried opening the other side, looking at the air breather hoses, and today, I used the jacks to raise up the side I was pumping on...nothing seems to work to cut down the foam...Any other suggestions? The rest of my first 750 mile trip was a pleasure and only minor "learning points"...but this was down right frustrating...
  • By my literature in the MH, my tank is 163 gallons(don't know that I believe that or not) but I have put more than 100 gallons in before and I too have this Foaming issue. I have found that the passenger side accepts fuel better than the drivers, I also remove(at times) both fuel caps to allow extra breathing. I NEVER use the truck pumps and generally will stand near by the pump and listen to the sound...you can tell when it's nearing full by the sound(or at least I can).

I've had spills before by leaving the pump, and it's NO fun(those days were at the high flow pumps...it just did not shut down quick enough to prevent a spill and there's nothing worst than for the next guy to have to stand in even the driest spill of fuel.
  • 100gal tank

pump in 85gal, that means you still had fuel in the tank when you stopped right
you didn't run it empty, so you can't pump 100gal in to it

why are you trying to fill up the fill tube

when it stops filling normal its full
once the vent tube is blocked air can't escape, so trying to fill anymore is going to make it foam
  • It's just a fact of life that diesel foams, I use the truck lanes with fillers on both sides. get them both filling, and get my stuff to wash the windshield, and get to work. both fillers will click off before I get the windshield done so I just let them set and settle down. put my windshield stuff away, then put one of the hoses away, and top off with the other side. we carry 150 gallons it takes about 10 minutes to top off.
  • I was a afraid I would have the same problem, but it actually fills fine, even at truck stops. It doesn't shut off! but it fills fine :)

Back in the day I had a 68 Bronco with 2 tanks and the rear one had the same problem because the fill was level. The fix for that was a piece of tygon tubing they I fed down the fill and hooked to the neck so it didn't slide down. For some reason, it would serve as a vent and would fill without coming back up.

If you are using diesel, try using a the truckers pumps. The nozzles are larger and fuel comes out faster.

I'm not sure I understand...the problems seems to me that I can't get it to come out slow enough...why would I want it to come out faster?
  • I guess you know that the filler hose being too level before entering the tank is causing the slow fill. Mine does the same thing but I'm able to fill a lot easier by kicking the left jacks down and raising it as high as it will go.

If you're handy, crawl under and see where the fill hose levels out then see if you might be able to re-route the filler so it will have a steeper slope. You might have to buy a different hose since the old one will probably be to stiff to bend around.
