has anyone ever had their m/h repainted. If so would you recommend it again. Who did it and is it pricey?

The comment on a Mexican paint job is way off. Hundreds of MH owners and even expensive bus conversions have had their units painted in Algadones ( close to Yuma). The work is excellent. Do a search and you will find all the info you need.

Like I said, all paint jobs look great when they leave the shop. I have seen Mexican paint jobs after a few years and I can tell that the prep work was quick and dirty. If you want a quality paint job, with quality materials and labor, it cannot be done in one week south of the border while you stay in the coach and while it is sprayed out in the open.

  • We had a 2002 36' DP painted about 5 years ago. Five base colors with four coats of DuPont Premier clear coat. The coach was stunning. We traded it in 2013 and it was bought before we left the dealer's lot with our new coach. The fellow who bought our old coach called me recently and said many folks tell him they thought he had a new coach.

Cost was $13,500 and it was done at Commercial Refinishers of Durham, NC. Great folks and quality work.
  • Due to extreme oxidation on the (color) gel-coat...I had the lower 1/3rd painted. All the storage doors were removed, the grill, headlights, (everything that could be removed)the surface was taken down to the bare, primed and painted. New stainless hardware all around. IMO, an absolute quality job. Of course an absolute quality price ($4,000)but the oxidation was so extreme, the gel-coat could not be reclaimed. Now, to protect this investment, I have the motorhome compounded and waxed once a year. Looks just about brand new.

Painted by Hainesport Auto and Truck in Hainesport, NJ. (They also do any Ford F-53 maintenance (that I can't do) as needed.)
  • We had our 2004 National Tropi-cal painted at Mike's Custom paint in Bremen, IN in 2013 and are extremsly pleased with the results. Their web site describes the process which is very extension and takes several weeks. Painting our 40' MH cost about $13k including body work, painting inside of basement doors etc. We feel we have a new coach and receive many compliments. I can send photos by PM.

Much of their business is painting new high end factory rigs.

  • If you want your RV to look great for years to come, it can cost $15,000+ for a quality paint job on your coach with 3-4 colors, base coat clear coat, polyurethane that will last for a decade or more.
You can take it to Mexico and for around $5000 you can get a quicky Mexican paint job that will last for a few years.
A quality paint job is all about preparation which can take a few weeks to do it right removing all windows, lights, etc. The actual painting can take a week or so depending on the design and number of colors.
If the shop does not have a spray booth big enough to handle your coach, I would pass, unless you are just looking for a cheap spray job.
Quality polyurethane paint is expensive. Quality labor is expensive. Let you wallet be your guide.
Just remember, MOST any paint job looks great as soon as it is finished. If it was not preped right, you won't know it until long after your check has cleared.
