You will find the macerator a much cleaner way to dump than the big hose. I would use it all the time (in fact I do...)
And no, you do not need to use the tank flush when you use the macerator, just hook it up and hit the switch.
Also, most of them have a gray water bypass, you can leave your gray dump valve open all the time, and some of the gray water will eventually go out the bypass.
I generally pump black to empty, then turn off the pump and open both valve and equalize the tanks. This does a good job of flushing out the black tank. then close gray and pump black again, then close black open gray and pump it dry.
