Bruce, I did take the trim off and got most of the old sealant off. Are you thinking instead of reusing the old trim just use a flat piece of aluminum? I can see how that may work. And I do plan on using the Eternabond tape. I bought it about a year ago and have just been putting this project off.
I was actually looking at it and wondering what good the trim piece was even doing at all? Basically it's just acting as a washer for the screws. I was thinking once I figure out what size screw will work, just getting them with a flat head and a washer and leave the trim out. That way I'll have a fairly flat surface to put the Eternabond tape on. If this Etrnabond is everything they say it is, I think that may actually work better anyway. I'll have to give that some thought.
