Gas can

My way of looking at that......be as self sufficient as possible. Don't count on others taking care of your problems. That's just me.

The fuel system in all modern motorhomes such as yours and mine have a good fuel capacity capable of traversing by normal routes any of the spacious areas of our continent without need of auxiliary fuel. It does require that one plans ahead and uses due diligence with maintaining the fuel gauge to show you accurate info.

Years ago I carried a one gallon can in a battery box on the tongue. It was about one inch too tall and held in with a bungee cord. The gas can fit in the box like it was made for it.

Always better to be safe than sorry. We always have a can of gas when we travel.

We carry a gallon in the compartment between the generator and dump tanks. We also have roadside, but it's faster to fill a can you're carrying. Our gas gauge is broken, I discovered, shortly after buying. Now I fill up when my odometer tells me we've gone 300 /350 miles.

What good would an empty gas can be when you run out of gas 50 miles from anything?

On RV's and boats, I have always considered them at 1/4 full as being empty. In other words, I never let it get below a quarter full. Having been all over the western US and Alaska, It is hard for me to imagine, running out of gas, if that rule is followed. I see zero need for a gas can

sounds like you dont tow a car. So you could put on a receiver hitch carrier for the gas and the honda genset. Just be cautious that someone dont steal the gen or gas. Problem with running a vehicleout of fuel is the good chance of scoring the injectors which use gas as a lubricant. But in lieu of doing this just plan to refuel every 1/2 tank indication. Putting gas in an enclosure such as the rvs usuaslly have can lead to fumes in the coach and other issues. Outside is the best. If you tow, have a siphon hose available and a small throw away container or just drive to next location and return with gas but you will need to have an 'approved' container to get it.

Not towing a car, MH hitch only rated for 3500. not sure how people tow race cars with these things. Anyways, hitch has bike rack with 2 electric bikes for short running around. Empty container is safer than full, but you don't have to buy a can when you get to the station. Have to remember built in generator won't work if gas is below 1/4 tank anyways. Probably over thinking this and over packing as usual. Worst feeling is something happens and I wish I had some tool/(whatever) that I could have brought to fix the issue. We are planning on hitting all the major parks in the southwest, not sure how densely populated those areas are, wasn't too thrilled paying $4 a gallon along PCH last winter.

You're overthinking. Unless you need to run a generator all day for some reason, then you might enjoy having the Honda along. In which case you'll need a gas can.

But for normal uses, no way. Use the Onan, fill up your fuel tank when needed, and forget it.
