GAS CLASS A. Vs. Dually

So would a newer gas class A ride better or worse than a 2015 Gmc dually with a 5th wheel.
Fifth wheel sits on a BD3 hitch, which has airbags and shocks on it.

Not trying to compare to diesel class a with air bags.
Have many pets and liking the idea of a class A. Thanks.

  • Assuming you aren't overloading the truck, I would give the pickup/5er the edge compared to the gas MH's I've ridden in.

Trucks ride much better when loaded up a good bit. It's empty where they can ride rough.

Now if you move into diesel pushers, it's a different game but it's also a different price range.
  • Ford made some improvements in their Class A chassis I think in 2020. Add the new V8 engine and it is a big improvement.
  • I've never seen a truck that can equal the air ride of my motor home.
  • My FW and truck combo rides so much better than the previous Gasser MH's we owned. That said the MH's were a 2012 and 2013 respectively , entry level and our current rig is a brand new F350 with the 10 speed. So it's not apples to apples. The truck rides like a Cadillac when towing. Not so much when it's empty. It's built to tow. It also came down to practicality. I needed a truck anyway so it didn't make sense for us to buy a truck and a MH. But after owning 2 gas MH's I will never own another. I was so worn out after a drive, the wander, the noise, it was just stressful and I did everything to try and address it. Maybe a high end gasser would have ridden better. If I ever buy another MH it will be a DP.
  • I had a dodge ram 3500 dually diesel, pulling a very heavy 35' 5wheel.
One sure knew it was a truck it rode like a truck and handled like a truck. Even though I had a air bag/shock system king pin the chucking was still very bad at times.

Moved to low end gasser the ride was some much more enjoyable even DW was happy. Moved to older diesel pusher and the ride was better.

For us there were so many advantages to moving up to a class A over the 5th wheel set up. Ride was just one of many, over all convenience related to class A traveling. Dogs love it as does the cat!

    good luck
  • I once owned a 2009, high end, gas class A that road every bit as good my 2015 Silverado 2500. The class A was more comfortable to drive being up high with a large windshield and a larger more adjustable seat. I am far more tired after 500 miles in my pickup than I have ever been in a Class A
  • We have 5 dogs and love the class A. It is more convenient for us. No stopping at rest area. Get out of truck go to trailer. We can stop make coffee, take the dogs out and just roll down the road. As far as the ride I have found when we have had a 5th wheel it rode better than our class A gas rigs and was much quieter. Now a diesel pusher . . . Thats another story.
