Not sure if it will work for you, but it may possibly be less complex to do, take a look at this mod done for a Weber Q.

They removed the reg from the BBQ, but kept it and installed quick release connections on the BBQ and the reg, so they could quick release plug the hose directly into the BBQ using the reg on the RV and then if they wanted to run off the bottle again, they just quick release plugged in the reg and screwed in a bottle again.
I did this mod for my Weber and all it cost me was a pair of quick releases, 1 hose, a collar, and some gas tape. Got the collar and tape at Lowes and the quick releases and hose from my local RV dealer.
