FWIW, the most efficient that 460 will run is at 2400 rpm's. For me that was about 62 mph depending on conditions. Set the cruise for 2400 rpm's and that 460 would purr all day.
Just like a prior poster noted, wind made the most difference for me. A 30mph headwind and I could watch the gas gauge moving. I learnt long ago to just kick back, and spend another day in the park since the money I spent on camping was less than what I threw out the window in MPG. One of the perks of being retired :) or maybe it's really just the necessity of having a fixed income :(.
Best advice on this thread is not to worry about it. Figure out how much money you're willing to spend and that will tell you how far you can go.
