Generator breaker problem

My generator Onan 7500 diesal quit working with air conditioner on and gen would not start, when I checked the generater I flipped the breaker switch off, the generator then would start but no power to anything on the coach. The 30 amp breaker switch will not reset on the generator , this is on a 2001 fleet wood expedition 36t what am I missing?
  • I'd check the voltage coming into the CB which is a dual CB for the 2x120V 31A circuits. Could be a CB issue. With the gen off can you reset the CB? Maybe even a short downstream on one of the circuits.
  • Turn off you main electrical breaker as well as ALL of the separate circuit breakers and see if the generator will run with it"s circuit breaker reset. Then you can add one circuit at a time with your main electrical panel to see which one trips the generator breaker. .
  • This may sound strange but push and hold the breaker on, then deliberately push it off holding for 5-6 seconds then back on. Then check all leads for voltage. It may even be a bad breaker. The cutoff of the A/C may be a symptom of just a breaker problem (hopefully).

You can try unhooking power going out from the breaker and see if it stays on.

Like said, will breaker reset with genset off?
Will the ac or other appliances operate on shore power?
If ac problem, you'd think that it would trip it's own breaker rather than the genset main.
Either way, you need to isolate the problem, as to one of the loads or to the genset itself.
