Generator Fuel Usage

We run our gene boondocking for 4 days straight loaded heavily in June during the Texas heat & burn just a little more than 1/2 tank of 99 gallons. Just a reference point. :)

My Onan 12.5 burns 1.5 gallons per hour under full load.

The generator fuel lineshould be routed to the diesel tank so that the diesel will not operate if the fuel in the tank drops below a certain level. Usually figure that at about a quarter tank in fuel tank then you cannot run the Jenny

For a week of dry camping I run the genny a bit in the morning and again in the evening for dinner, shower, TV and etc...about 4 hours a day and budget 2 gallons/day or so. It I need the AC and more hours than it goes up and I figure 1 gallon/hour avg.

My diesel gen (in my class A) burns about 1/2 gal per hour under load of one (1) A/C unit running 24/7 in the TX heat. One A/C unit is enough in my 40 footer --- I close off the rear when in the front and vice versa

IMO, in the summer HEAT, its prob cheaper to get a campsight and use the FREE elec

You almost certainly have an Onan 8K genny. The fuel consumption will range between .5 gph @ half load (4000watts) to 1 gph at full load which is not going to happen too often. When I dry camp I count on about 8 gal/day in moderate temps. If it is blazing hot, and you will be running the genny day and night, you could easily almost double that. Bottom line is hit the boondock spot with a full tank, and you should have no worries at all for 3-4 days. I have gone 10 days on genny and still had enough to get running and go search for diesel. Typically water becomes the problem way before diesel. Enjoy!

when we pull in to a camp ground, we fill up the gasline and propane. and know how much we use, to be able to last,.now its all happy camping

It depends on the size generator you have and what you run on it. As a data point I have a 5.5 KW Gas Kohlar and I will disconnect the fuel line and put it in a gal of gas container and some seafoam and run it for an hr(to exercise it and clean eng) with 2 ACs running and it will use 1/2 gallon.
