Generator Power Question - Might be a silly one

Hey folks,

Might be a really silly question...here's the situation.

Generator powers up no problem. Haven't found how to get the power out of the outlets once it's running.

Here's my question. Doesn't the shoreline cable backfeed out the plug? There's another outlet in my shoreline cable storage unit. Do I plug that cable into it in order to get the generator power while it's running?

    Well,
The first thing is, we need to know the coach/model/year/make and more. You see, some of the older coaches with generators needed for the shore power plug to be plugged into an outlet in the compartment, so the gen power would power up the coach. But, with the invention of the "Transfer switch", there's been no need for that type of system. Shore power, for the most part, will pass through a transfer switch and go direct to the distribution/breaker panel in the coach.
But, fire up the gen and, it will feed the same panel, only through the transfer switch.

At least I think this is how it works. I'm sure a more educated tech will chime in here and correct me in my thinking if I'm off here.

  • Depends on the rig. Make and model of rig would help.
Yes, plug it into that receptacle.
