That is NOT a good recommendation to make, in general. Too much liquid fuel put directly into the carb can damage the engine.
Put the fuel....gas, ether or propane.....into the air intake with all the parts in place. Much easier and safer.
Mine has a priming procedure, holding down the STOP button for 30 seconds. The all may not have that though.
And "plenty of gas in the tank" needs to be more than half full just to be sure. If drawing from the main tank, it stops drawing somewhere around 1/4 full on purpose.
