No it IS kind of the point.
Your situation is kind of unique.
Most of us use the gen ALL the time.....or at least frequently.
And it is not so much of a hassle if you combine it with other monthly tasks while in storage:
Inspect living quarters and storage compartments for vermin infestation and water leaks.
Sniff test and visual inspection for mold.
Run the main engine long enough to get it up to operating temp.
Air it out.
MOve it about 18 inches to prevent tire flat spots.
Does one HAVE to do all of those things: NO.
Is it good to do them: YES.
I think you are sharp enough to realize that your personal situation is not widely shared. Knowing that, you should also realize that advocating things you do for others probably isn't appropriate for many.
