How would having to prime for a longer time indicate a carburetor that needs cleaning? Priming on these generators is just to get in (and air out of) the gas lines and the bowl of the carburetor; it doesn't particularly pump gas into the jets and other internal bits of the carburetor that most commonly get gummed up.
I would suspect instead it just means that there's a long gas line between the generator and the gas tank, or possibly a weak gas pump in the generator.
