If it's a carb it could be the choke and throttle kind of an issue. I have the older Emerald 4K (1990) and it can be hard to start. I now know to go hold the throttle about 1/2 way open and it will fire right up. I also had to replace the regulator on it once. It would crank over all day but not start and not act like it was even going to try to start. I run mine every two weeks and put a load on it when I do. Purrs like a kitten.
