Generic generator output

I have a 1996 rexhall with a generac generator. I'm trying to locate the transfer switch to see if I'm getting AC current from generator. It was working fine and I was able to run both AC's but it stopped working. I'm able to get power through shore power and the generator runs fine. I looked all over for switch with no luck and ideas where I should look?

  • According to Rexhall techs the transfer switch can be located either near the shore power plug or near the AC distribution panel. Mine was about 3 feet from the AC distribution panel.
  • You may not have a transfer switch. It may be manual. Do you have an outlet in your electrical bay that your cord will plug into. If so plug your cord into this outlet and see if it works.
  • There are 2 circuit breakers on the generator just below the start switch. One is for 20 amp and one for 30 amp. Neither one of them have popped.
  • Tom,

Virtually all generators have an output circuit breaker. These can be difficult to locate in some installations. Once you find it, be sure it is set, then plan to get to it to tighten the screws on the terminals. Those shake loose.

There is a circuit breaker on my 7500 watt diesel Generac by the start switch mounted on the unit itself... Make sure it's on...
