Don't know where all that is coming from and it is the first time hearing of wanting to go back to a combo gas unit. Besides, not every new coach comes with a residential and have no idea what you may be looking at.
The efficiency and cost would be the first thing in stopping me and would rather beef up the battery compartment and running with an inverter, if need be in an older rig, not setup properly for it.
Again if you're planning on dry camping in the desert for extended periods and don't have a lot of solar panels, it might get a little old. Still many do it and just use their gen set for keeping the batteries charged. Even a little 1000 watt unit will do that much and save on running the big boy all the time.
I even run our RV fridge on an inverter going down the road and for short periods when all the power is off. Then again, I'm doing this with only two 6v batteries in series, so........
