Y'know, some of you people remind me of the car dolly doomsayers or the 4X4 doomsayers (ESPECIALLY if you live in "snow country"!) or many of the assorted other doomsayers and naysayers on these forums.
"MY way is the ONLY way, anybody who does it any other way is a fool or just stupid!"
Well, sorry, folks, life just doesn't work that way!
Some of us LIKE our RV refrigerators.
Some of us LIKE using a car dolly.
Some of us get by just fine without four wheel drive.
Over the years since about 1970, I have owned every type of RV except a B or a popup, including 2 trailers, several truck campers from 8 foot to 11.5 foot, a Class C, 3 Class As, and we lived in a fifth wheel for nearly three years. ALL of them had regular propane/electric RV refrigerators, and, in spite of the doomsayers, NONE of them ever had a fire. ALL of them worked just fine, even in ambient temperatures of over 100 degrees. Yes, I know, other people HAVE had fires caused by RV refrigerators. But then, other people have had a lot of problems that I have never encountered. That proves nothing.
Obviously, I agree with the OP. I would not buy an RV that had a RR. In fact, I walked away from a nice little class C a few years ago because somebody put an apartment size 110VAC frig in it. That WAS the deal killer!
Yes, I know I can install 4 more batteries (or 6, or whatever) and an inverter and solar panels. I do not want to add all that weight to a rig that has a limited Cargo Carrying Capacity, nor do I want to spend the money. I would rather buy Ham radios and accessories (I need a good antenna analyzer; it would cost less than 2 batteries!)
Folks, you have to realize that, just like those of us who like what we have, you are speaking primarily for yourselves. WE are just as set in our ways as you are, and it is doubtful you will change our minds about the issues.
So, go camping, catch some fish, and have a fish fry.
What, you only "catch and release"??
Well, OK, to each his own, I will be nice and not say what I think of THAT practice!
