- rr2254545ExplorerThe fuel cost per mile is less with diesel as it gets better mileage
With the gasser based on todays price here in Minnesota 39 cents per mile based on 7 mile per gallon
The diesel pusher is 32 cents per mile based on 9 miles per gallon
Since the mileage is 22% better the diesel is more cost effective unless the price per gallon exceeds gas by more than 22% - Bruce_BrownModerator

Don't take this the wrong way but it's apparent you've never owned a diesel.
While a gas coach is wonderful, I cannot think of even one advantage it has over a diesel.
Even when not driving, typically the build materials are a touch above a gasser - not a knock on a gasser, there is just more chassis under the diesel to handle the weight so they can use heavier materials.
Also the basement storage of a diesel is something a gasser just can't do. And full timing storage is always at a premium.
Now get to the driving side of the discussion.
Years ago we were warned by friends DO NOT DRIVE A DIESEL PUSHER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SIGN THE PAPERS. They were right. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIFull time where you plan to move often, diesel.
Full time where you only move 3-4 times per year it would make no difference at all. Buy the best floor plan for your lifestyle. You will get WAY more coach for the money with gas at the disadvantage of ride, comfort and quite. - Mr_Mark1ExplorerWe will never full-time but you just can't beat a diesel for power and CCC (especially with a tag axle).
And, it all depends on your budget. If your budget puts you into a 20 yr. old diesel motorhome, you might be nickeled and dime'd replacing things that have worn out (house items).
Good luck and safe travels,

- GlennLeverExplorerno choice, diesel
- WyoTravelerExplorerI would buy what suits my needs. When you get above 36' the gasser drive shaft is pretty long. I like my gasser @ 34' and it has all I need. If you need to tow more or go fast up Mtn grades you need to look at those needs. Doubt you will wear out either gasser or diesel engine. Most old MHs still have very low mioeage.
- 2chiefsRusExplorerAssume you mean full time use? After having a gas coach first and now a diesel, I prefer diesel because:
1 - we can fill up where the trucks do. Sometimes it was difficult finding a place to get in and out of with a gas coach with a car in tow. This is especially true on the eastern half of the US so might not be a problem for you.
2 - the gas coach was significantly more difficult to keep cool when driving in the heat because of the engine located up front between the driver and passenger.
3 - it is easier to carry on a conversation in the diesel coach vs the gas coach again because of the location of the engine.
4 - easier to sleep overnight if you have to run the generator while boondocking for the AC because the generator is located away from the bedroom area.
5 - carrying capacity of the diesel is better not just because of the weight but also because the weight of the front axle on a gas coach is upfront which limits the weight available in the pass through storage bays. Locating the engine in the rear of the coach on the larger capacity axle leaves more capacity left for "stuff".
6. The exhaust brake. I never minded it taking longer to get UP the big hills/mountains with the gas coach but sometimes I was a little nervous going back DOWN the hills/mountains. - rr2254545ExplorerI diesel MH can pull up to 10,000 pounds so no need to have a smallish car
I have owned both and far prefer the diesel -
Much better ride - steers better too
Quiet - I can actually talk to my wife
Much much more room to store stuff
