- 2cAmericaExplorerTo all, Thank-you for the feedback. Fantastic amount of experience and integrity. Greatly appreciated.
Safe journey to each.
2CAmerica - Passin_ThruExplorerThe argument has covered at least 100 pages in these forums. As far as ones ego, I don't care if you own a Veggie powered MH I have seen hundreds and all I know is you just about have tot buy a brown one. No one knows how to paint or change the color in Gelcoat so buy a brown one. I did see a grey one and an black brown and grey one and a grey and brown one..................

We have had 2 DP and the fact that we can carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice because the engine is in the rear means a lot! Yes we pay more for servicing when it comes to oil changes, etc. but we wouldn't change that ride for anything!
Obviously you have driven in a modern day gas coach.
Try sleeping in the bedroom of your DP while it's being driven down the road - mike_brezExplorerIf your going to start splitting hairs on the cost differance between a gasser and a diesel oil change or the differance in price per gallon for fuel these two things should be the least of your worries.
- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThat's still a 10% premium for the privilege of owning a DP. I own a DP, and would not own anything else, but that does not mean I believe it's saving me any money! As an aside, my DP takes about 30 Qts per oil change and that's only good for 1 year or 10,000 miles.
- glamisorbustExplorer IIDiesel today here in surprise, AZ(phoenix suburb) is $2.59 and regular unleaded is $2.85. And the oil change on my cummins ISB is 17 quarts and a filter. Not much more than a gasser and it will last 10-15k miles.

You will hear it's less expensive to go with a 5er and a PU (been there, done that) but for what a new diesel PU and a quality 5er cost... $120K+ you can find a nice high end 10- year old DP that has taken the depreciation hit and still has many years and miles left in it for less.
The cost difference gas/diesel is not enough to worry about. One oil change every 15K miles instead of 4-5 for a gasser. There may be a $100 difference the price of tires for a a DP and big gasser... every 7-9 years.
$120k and you are getting a brand new truck and 5th wheel. If you go with a comparable 10yr old combo, you are probably in the $30-40k range compared to your $120k DP.
Most gas engines get 7-10k miles between oil changes, so while not big, the diesel will cost you more. It's really the up front cost of the diesel engine that gets you.
The rest of your discussion that I cut out was confusing the difference between lower end vs higher end rigs and had little to do with diesel vs gas other than the higher end rigs come with diesel standard. Of course, it you compare a low end gas rig vs a high end diesel it will look better but when you compare rigs that have the engine choice, diesel is nice but in no way critical. - Dutch_12078Explorer II

Buy the floorplan and features you like best regardless of how the coach is powered. You'll be spending a lot more time living in it than you will driving it.
Don't take this the wrong way but it's apparent you've never owned a diesel.
While a gas coach is wonderful, I cannot think of even one advantage it has over a diesel.
Even when not driving, typically the build materials are a touch above a gasser - not a knock on a gasser, there is just more chassis under the diesel to handle the weight so they can use heavier materials.
Also the basement storage of a diesel is something a gasser just can't do. And full timing storage is always at a premium.
Now get to the driving side of the discussion.
Years ago we were warned by friends DO NOT DRIVE A DIESEL PUSHER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SIGN THE PAPERS. They were right.
You would be wrong, Bruce, I have owned an Allegro Bay DP, and yes it did ride and drive better than the gassers I've owned and currently own. A DP doesn't necessarily "live" better than a gasser though, if it doesn't have a floorplan that fits you. I don't care how often you move, you'll still spend more time living in it than you will driving it. Note that I did NOT say a gasser was necessarily a better choice than a DP, just that the power plant should not be the overriding decision maker for an RV that spends most of its time sitting still. - BusskipperExplorer
