Going to NOLA next week - suggestions please

I like your plans for sites to see, and great advice in this string, but a couple of fav's that I didn't see mentioned:
- Felix's Oyser Bar (my favorite), or Acme Oyster Bar across the street. Oysters or turtle soup.
- Court of Two Sisters or Commander's Palace - fine and finer dining, respectively.
- The arboretum and tour Loyola and/or Tulane.
- X2 or 3 on the streetcars out to the garden district.
- Camilia Grill for breakfast, it's a streetcar ride.

Make sure you have small bills in your pocket. Every time you look at someone they are asking for a handout.Asked a guy directions he was wanting a handout before he would answer my question. I like N.O. have been many times,like any other big city be aware of your surroundings and don't travel alone. You will be fine and have a great time.Don't gain to much weight eating all that great food. Sounds like all the responses have given you some good things to do. Be sure to drink some "French Market coffee, one of my favorites.I was on a road trip from Niceville Fla. back to Houston once , Turned off I-10 at sunset to head down to Coffee De Monde to wait out heading west at sunset. Had coffee and beignet's (sp) till almost dark .Headed on to Houston , handed my wife a bag of Beignet's (sp) at 10pm that night! Good road trip. No rv just ol ford van. GO on a haunted house tour or tour some of the old homes.Also there is a tour of an old home in the quarter that is run by the federal park service.

Consider booking a swamp tour in a air boat. We had a ball!

I stumbled on the best breakfast in the whole world.... It Penelope's in the French Quarter... it is small only 8 or 10 tables. may have to wait in line but worth it...

Just spend some time walking around the FQ. So many interesting sites, street musicians, history, architecture. We had a great time there and can't wait to go back. Enjoy!

If you like jazz, you've got to visit Preservation hall. It's a "hole in the wall", but very famous, and lots of jazz musicians have been there. Sometimes famous jazz players just show up and play, You have to get there early and stand in line, but it's neat. Just off Bourbon street.

Lots to do, that's for sure.

I used to go to the Cafe before meetings, so by 7 or so. Never had much of a line then!

But, we didn't notice it, and walked right in, and found a seat... Took a bit to get served and then we realized that the waiters have "x" amount of tables, and when one leaves, the waiter goes out to get the next person in line. We cut in front of probably a 100 people or more inadvertently. We did get served and only afterwards did we realize it.

For beignets - Cafe Du Monde, of course.

For food - Mother's Restaurant which is located at the intersection of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas. They have some huge, wonderful seafood platters.

We usually just walk or taxi back and forth between where we are staying and what we want to see, but we are usually staying in a hotel in the downtown area.

We enjoy the Jackson Square area, the straw market, the riverfront (we are usually heading out on a cruise from there), Bourbon St. at least once, but that's all it took for my fill of it. Check out Pat O'Brien's and drink a hurricane and if you like music, check out some of the many, many music clubs located in the French Quarter.

Yes we are going in our RV - sorry. We have reservations at a park that is a little less costly and has good ratings.
