I also have installed he 3rd gate valve and do this "trick" routine regularly; however, it is not new as it's been around for a really long time. The soapy water from the gray tank does indeed help clean out left over debris in the black tank and also helps to keep the level sensors working properly. Hauling a bucket of water through the rv to dump in your toilet seems to me to be really old school and prone to a possible mess within the rig... Pulling a couple of gate valves is much, much easier with no possibility of spilling water throughout the rv.
