Black Tank Flush

So back to the OP question. We have a San-T-Flush, never use it, we use the wand you mentioned. Why... the San-T-Flush has fixed holes that spray the same spots If you have toilet paper stuck on a probe and it is not in the path of a hole it may not get it, the wand will. Our process, we dump, run the wand a couple of times, close the black valve, then put about 5 gal in and dump again usually comes out clean (through the clear adapter. Then I dump the gray to rinse out the hose.

Rinsing your black tank with Florida water will actually make the black tank smell worse. :W

I for one did not say it was stupid to rinse a holding tank. I did say over use of water was not a good thing. Lots of rest areas with dump stations are on septic tank-sewage lagoon systems. They have gone to waterless urinals trying to conserve water. There are lots of waterless urinals in use in many public places that don't have dump stations but are doing their part to conserve water. There are also lots of RV parks/campgrounds on septic systems and have problems from time to time with them. If every RV that dumped their tanks,refilled and rinsed a couple of extra times using say even 10 or so extra gallons of water, I don't mind the extra wait but the excess water use and overtaxing of sewer systems does bother me.

To those that think rinsing is stupid and inconsiderate to those waiting at the dump station, be glad you don't own my last trailer. It had a long flat tank with the toilet inlet on the opposite side of the outlet.

I never dumped without nearly filling it with water to start with including dumping dishwater down the toilet, I would take a few loops around the campground to slosh it about and then pull up to the dump station which are never level compounding the problem.

It would drain slow and if I couldn't rinse and rinse long, one look down the toilet would tell you that a substantial amount of solids would remain.

Rinsing for some is very necessary. I am fortunate enough to have a dump at home and many times finished the rinse when I got home. When I was going from a no hookup CG to another without hookups, well you just had to wait behind me in line at the dump station.

The "sensors" are basically screws the sticks thru the tank side. The problem is the film coating the tank wall, between the sensors, changes the resistance. The only thing that you can do without buying parts, is clean the inside of the tank.

I built a device so that I can compensate for the dirty tank walls.

That's pretty much normal. In fact, if you don't have false readings, it's almost like there really is something wrong, lol.

Need to use something to clean the tank. Various methods and you will get many different suggestions like the Geo method for example. When you are breaking camp and going home or to next CG, take the time to do a good flushing of the tank every time - can fill tank with water maybe 1-3 times and dump and sometimes that's enough. If you have a built-in tank flusher, that alone may work (does for us). Or you may want to try a backflush elbow. Our owners manual says to use Liquid Drano and have done that a couple of times when nothing else has worked. There are RV chemicals for black tanks and they need to be used above a certain temp. (ie., won't work in cold weather.

Or as some do, just ignore the readings and dump when you think it's time to empty the tank(s).

We installed Horst Miracle probes but they didn't help much. Did the same on a previous TT and it really helped. Depends on your particular tank dimensions and outlet piping.

I have a quick question about the black tank. My gauge has been reading full for the past season and a half. Not sure if there is just toilet paper stuck on it? Are the sensors easy to get to or change?

Cooking oil works better because it doesn't evaporate near as fast if it's going to be in storage for a while.

And as a note, if you have a floor drain in your basement, use cooking oil it in also to prevent evaporation and the house smelling if you're going to be gone for months.

Yup - guy has a simple question about how a tank flusher works and gets chastised for using too much water - or in your case overtaxing the treatment system. I'm sure he is making a big difference in flow at the treatment plant - alarms sound when he pulls up to the dump station. Stop being a troll, and you won't get called out on it.
