It will overflow into your gray tank if the valves are closed for too long, and then out your shower drain...don't ask how I know this to be true.
On mine the manual says to never leave any of the valves closed when you are using the hose connection to flush your tank. Apparently you can build up some pressure that may cause some problems like you experienced.
