If there are working J traps in the system (and there are) then no odors from either tank will ever come back into the coach via the drains. Be you hooked up or be you dry camping, these rules do not change. Sending some grey water into the black tank (yes, I have done this exactly as described) is NOT a bad thing. It's not something I do all the time but I actually like to dump the black, dump what I believe to be most of the grey and then do as described. However, I don't dump the black. I leave the soapy grey in the black tank until I get to the next location and dump again.
Here's the thing....There is NOT only one correct way to do this stuff. I have a black tank flusher as well but it you really want it to be effective over the entire tank you would dump, use the flusher with the drain closed (danger, warning Will Robinson!) and leave about 1/4 tank of fresh water in there while you drove to your next location. At that point you would drain the black again for the most effective flush available.
Others will, of course, be alone to let you know why I have no idea what I am talking about!
