Good Experience with Winegard Rayzar Antenna Installation
We purchased the Rayzar automatic air antenna to replace the original antenna that came with our 2004 coach. The original antenna was a powered antenna where you pushed buttons inside the coach to raise and lower the antenna and to move it to tune it in. We were having issues with it lowering and decided it was time for a new one.
We liked the idea of not raising and lowering an antenna - just something else to forget when leaving camp - and the automatic search and the amplifier is built in. We took down the old one - not too bad a job. The plate that came with the Rayzar was not the right shape and did not cover the hole. We bought an aluminum plate and drilled holes in the same places as the old antenna. We put the plate over the hole and use the old screws to mount it - of course using a lot of Dicor to seal everything. There was a cable plate already covering the place the cable came to the antenna but we replaced it with the new one that came with the Rayzar. It was the same plate so the same screw holes were used with lots of Dicor.
There was an TV amplifier already in the cabinet next to the controller for the old antenna. We replaced it with the controller for the antenna. The cable from the roof was going into the back of the amplifier and there was power to the amplifier so everything we needed was there. The controller plate for the Rayzar fit in the same location that the amplifier was in. We did not have the cable TV into this amplifier - we have a switch box where everything is distributed from. Therefore, there was not anything more to do than connect the cable from the Razor and connect the cable that goes to the switch box that distributes the signal to the TVs in the coach.
We are on our first trip with it and it works great! Just push a button to search for the signals and then program the TV. The picture is great!
