Good place to stash a safe on a "B"?

Other than this which can be an OK place to stash stuff, does anyone have any good recommendations for a burglary-resistant strongbox?

This would be something I'd toss in a 13" laptop (MacBook Pro) or an iPad while out and about, so a broken window might result in some theft (DVD player, sat receiver, sewer hose), but not of the more expensive goodies.

As for placement, I'm looking at a few spots, depending on rig I get, most likely on the floor so I could (after making sure there are no wires or such in the way) use a custom-length U-bolt around a frame member underneath, which will resist all but power tools.

Agreed. I'm not asking for locations (which won't be publicized), but what brands/models others have had good luck with.

I'm not expecting something better than the security of a missile silo, but something good enough so the tweaker looking for a fix just grabs the DVD player and runs off, without getting any real high-dollar items.

You can try to buy an in-wall hotel safe. They're generally big enough to handle a smallish laptop and certainly an iPad and a camera, etc.

The I'd lag bolt it to the inside of the closet of the floor if you have a closet deep enough, etc.

This may not stop them from getting to it, but doing this, plus a couple of receipts and photos to your insurance carrier may be enough to get you reimbursed a lot easier should a break in ever occur.

I have the perfect spot for a metal lock box in the floor of one of my cabinets. Been planning on putting one in there but haven't got around to it yet. Right now all the so called neat items end up in the back seat of the truck under a blankie and goes where we go.

  • Asking here and people giving answers is letting the thief know exactly where to look.

If someone wants in your unit they will get in really quickly
  • I don't worry much about our laptop and iPad and wouldn't want the daily hassle of locking them up. Maybe would if we were camping and touring in downtown (insert scary city name here.) But there are quite a few places even in a B, just like bigger RVs, where a safe could be hidden. It just depends on the model and layout.
  • If the want it
    they will take it
the more they look the more the wreck and destroy
Don't ask people on the web were to put a safe.
put it were you thing it right
out of sight out of mined
  • Look for a panel that screwed in but and not accessable because of wires and pipes behind it. (If you have one). Use that space and then put the panel (make it a false panel that opens, but when looking at it you can't tell it opens), and put the safe there. I did a modified version of this in my last TT, under the space below the oven. You'd never know that panel could open, and I didn't even need a safe.
  • I just had an alarm system installed so even if I was inside it would make a lot of noise.
