GPS mount

RAM is a very good product! Coupled with your good work: WINNER!

I have mine mounted to the windshield in just about the same place and i found that by moistening the rubber before mounting to

the glass that it will adhere much better. Still there after a month or so.

I've always used a bit of moisture on mine too, but more often than not, they fall off several days, or even 3-4 weeks later. I've ensured the glass is clean and the cup is clean.

It's very disconcerting when they do fall, usually at the most inopportune times too. I'll still use the suction cup in the Canyon as I don't have a permanent mount for it. The vast majority of use for the car GPS is in the motorhome, however.

Forest River installed the Jensen unit in the dash which includes a GPS, but it is very hard to read and interact with. It appears they laid out the typefaces & line weights on a 30" screen where things appeared huge, but when it was sized down to the double-din head unit... the result was less than useful.

I'm not a fan of the in-dash GPS units. For what it usually costs to update one, you can buy a quality GPS from Garmin (yep I'm a Garmin fan) with free lifetime map updates, and with better features.

I use a beanbag mount on top of the dash. A couple of velcro dots keeps it from sliding around.

I have a RAM mount that attaches to the (unused) rear view mirror mount on the windshield. The GPS goes there.

Dakzuki, can you please tell me the item number of the RAM product you have? I just contacted the RAM company and they said they do not have anything that attaches to the rear view mirror, only a cradle. Is that what you have? I want a mount that actually takes the place of the mirror.

While the mirror mount is a great idea, it's a bit tough for the Bifocal/trifocal drivers. I like the location I chose for these reasons:

1) It is at normal view height - no looking up or down, just a tad bit to the left
2) It is easily reachable - no stretching or bending
3) Minimal obstruction of the windshield...

Some points to consider.

I'm planning on moving the backup camera monitor up and back so it no longer obscures the windshield as well, and is easier to reach. Not that it needs fiddled with as a GPS does, however.

We have a rear window that I'd like to install a Fresnel lens, and put a good old-fashioned mirror back on the windshield so I can glance back into the coach (what was that crash?) or through the Fresnel to watch traffic.

There's many options, but none that are perfect for everyone.
