Yes, that's correct. A cellular iPad will have WiFi and the internal GPS receiver. When you first set it up it will ask for your cellular carrier. Just skip that step and continue with the balance of the setup procedure.

I purchased a Verizon iPad just in case I should ever want to add it to my cell phone and MiFi data account. However I haven't found a reason to do that since I can connect my iPad to my MiFi device via WiFi.

BTW, I purchased a refurbished iPad from The Apple Store It came with a one year warranty and has been working fine for more than two years.

No...just GPS (satellite). You do not need Wifi and/or Data and/or Cell Coverage. The only time you need Wifi or data is when you download the app and/or maps. Once the app and maps are loaded locally on the phone it works just like any other stand-alone GPS.

Ok, the reason I ask is because I do not have a Cell Phone. There is an Acer tablet on sale with Android in it. If I buy this tablet and get the pilot GPS, will it work without any service once I install the application?

Still kind of strange to me because on my computor when I use microsoft I need a satelite adaptor to plug in the computor in order to get GPS function.

I can't speak for the arrangement you are talking about nor can I speak on I-Pad. I am going to be getting a Sony 10" Android Tablet which has GPS that I know I can load the Copilot software on. I am not buying the tablet for that application but I know it will work just fine as I have had other Android tablets and can run the same apps I have on my phone on the tablets.

Phone is functional with GPS running in the background on my Android with Sygic. No broadband required.

Best part is we have two phones and one tablet all running the same GPS software and one (now $40) license fee paid three years ago.

A GPS is always in our pocket/purse....
