I have a Dezl 560 that works great on top of dash. It is a 5" Garmin. A 7" Garmin would be large on the dash. Beyond that either model will work well. Dezl models have RV routing like the RV model has.
One of the best features of the Garmin and some other GPS's is that custom POI (points of interest) can be added to it's memory. I use POI Factory to download campgrounds, department stores, fuel stations and many other POI that are updated more often than they are in map updates.

I have been looking at the Garmin GPS units too as I have them it in my car. I noted that Garmin did not list “Propane Restrictions” on its list of “it does”. I emailed Garmin and ask if it did do the propane restrictions and got a negative reply, That is one thin that it does not do. Further research and I found that the Rand McNally GPS does all the Garmin does and much more. It is offered by Good Sam (http://blog.goodsamclub.com/2013/05/good-sam-gps-makes-rv-routing-simple/) or at Rand McNally’s web site. I believe that there are local dealers too. It is my next RV purchase (sorry Garmin).

Whatever GPS you get, make sure it comes with lifetime map updates. I have a garmin, and they want around 90 bucks to purchase lifetime map updates, you can purchase one time updates for cheaper, but heck, you can just buy a new unit WITH free lifetime map updates for.cheaper...

I purchased an RV-760-LMT recently and have used it on two trips. Good experience, and I like the larger 7" display. I have a RAM 3500, and the mounting position on the windshield places the unit pretty far away. The existing database of CGs seems very complete.

The only negative I've seen with the unit is the automatic traffic rerouting if you are using it for RV use. I disabled that feature because once it tried to take me pretty far out of the way due to moderate traffic congestion. I would have done it in a car, but dragging the fifth wheel behind me, slow traffic was better than the alternative.

I use the suction mount with our Garmin and attach it at the top left side of the windshield. That location puts it out of the way for watching traffic ahead while at the same time it is within easy reach.

We have the Rand McNally 7715, basically the same as the 7720 with a couple of bells and whistles stripped. We're very happy with it.

Just an FYI..the Garmin nuvi's..and maybe all of the GPS units that have the Lifetime Maps and Live Traffic Up-daters have the antenna for the incoming data in the charging wire, that feeds from the 12v dash power source. Just note that the plug in module is quite large and on Fords the end of the plug-in adapter is really really close to the working end of the transmission shifter. I have talked to Garmin and they acknowledge the issue with no intention of changing anything. One suggestion from Garmin was to purchase one of the 12V adapters from Radio Shack with the multiple plugs, thus moving the adapter out of hands/harms way. I haven't pursued this yet, but likely will.

We have a Garmin Nuvi, the thing that I wish was different is a volume control like a radio. Easy up and down, not reprogram.
