Grand Canyon North Rim

Anyone stay at the National Park campground on the North Rim? I noted almost all sites have a max of 27' length. Is this a factual number or sufficient safety factor for say a 30'er?

  • The golden Aspens are a sight to behold in the fall. The Lodge and services close on the North Rim sometime in Oct if I remember right. We were there just before closing. Snow had chased us South from Bryce Canyon that week.
  • we stayed at jacobs lake, forest service camp ground with a 40footer several years ago. Drove the jeep down to the actual canyon rim.
  • The North rim is really cold right now, and under about 3-6 feet of snow. The North rim closes due to snow by November, opens around May 1, give or take a few weeks due to snow coverage. . .

    Good luck!

    Fred.
  • Wow, thanks for the input. We are really excited about our visit to the North Rim.
  • We parked our 40' motorhome there. However, unless they have redone it, we wouldn't try to use the narrow dump station area.

We've also used DeMotte national forest campground which is just outside the park's entrance. We've also found some great boondocking places nearby.
  • I parked a 37' Montana there. Be careful walking around at night until you know the layout. I almost walked over the rim of a side canyon that was right behind my space. There were no guard rails and it was very dark. I should have had a flashlight but I only walked about 30'. We had pulled in right at dusk. Otherwise, I like the north rim better than the south. North is cooler and green. South is hot and desert.
  • I was there in September, and saw quite a few larger than 30'. Most/all spaces are semi-circular pull-thru spurs off the roads, left and right sides. The one cautionary factor is that there can be trees when you pull in and/or pull out, and you have to watch carefully entering/leaving.
  • My MH measures 30' and I tow a Jeep Wrangler and I had no problem fitting both in the spaces provided.
