My overflow outlet is located on the side of the water tank, but up as high on the side as possible (maybe 1" from the top). This leave about 1" of air on the top of the tank that cannot escape.
When mine did it it would drain about 1/3 of the 53 gal tank. Still enough to flush the toilet and take a shower. My comment was based on my experience with my RV and some other winnies with the same model out there that had the same problem. I have never heard of anyone's tank getting comply siphoned empty, I thought the guy was exaggerating as a lot of water does come out (in my case roughly 15 gallons).
