Have possible electrical issue with horn

Hello, I have a 1999 national Tradewinds with 113,000 miles on it. The only problem I have had so far is the highway horn started sounding and would not turn off. I had to pull over and pull the fuses out from behind the plate near the armrest. I don’t know how to fix this as all the fuses look fine. Also, the ceiling fan stopped working the next day. Where do I start to look for the problem as I try to do these little fixes myself and I am not a mechanic by any means. So I need details . Thank you!

  • I would disconnect the wires, then check for continuity. If there is continuity the switch is bad.
  • So by pulling the wires from the back of the switch, do you think I just need to replace the switch itself?
  • Good chance then it is the solenoid or switch. Since pulling fuse stopped it, more apt to be switch. Old days, they were cable actuated but now electric.
  • What chassis is your rig on?
Gas chassis have an electric horn with power going through horn relay.
  • Also, does the fan also have a solenoid because I did not see anywhere that the ceiling vent fan has a fuse.
  • Thank you, the problem with the booklet that comes with the RV if they don’t show you things like solenoid for the horn. From what I’ve researched it’s under the coach is that correct? And is that some thing that I can easily do?
  • If an AIR HORN, likely the SOLENOID that allows air pressure to the air horn is stuck.

So, pull out your voltmeter and check at the solenoid.

That will tell you quickly if it is a stuck solenoid or error in signal from horn button to solenoid.
