5. how did you change or get the tire changed. If with a roadside service company...were you satisfied with response and service?
Good Sam Roadside Assistance. About 3 hours with new tire.
6. did the blow out cause you to lose control or an accident
No, but it did pull the coach to the left when it blew. I was able to slow the coach and stay in control.
7. did the coach sustain damage?
Yes, body panel damage, gas filler neck destroyed, engine tailpipe torn down and had to cut it off on roadside to continue on trip, generator tailpipe torn down, wiring harness destroyed, fender well damaged. About $4K total damages.
9. Any other information you think might be 'educational' or of some benefit to a newbie.
This was our second blowout. The first was due to an old tire that was on the coach when we bought it. That tire was over 10 years old....my fault for not checking. About 10 minutes prior to the second blowout less than a month later after the first one, we had been on the road (I-95 SB heading to Charleston, SC) for about 2.5 hours and smelled what we thought was hot rubber. Being paranoid from the first blowout, I pulled over and checked all tires and none felt even warm to the touch. I was running maybe 60-65MPH...in no hurry at all. A few miles down the road, the tread completely came off the tire. This was a BRAND NEW TIRE with less than 500 miles on it. Our insurance and Goodyear made it all good, though, so overall we are satisfied other than the inconvenience of the whole ordeal. I must admit, though, I am uber-paranoid now of another blowout and am very OCD about checking tire pressures to be sure it ain't my fault! I even bought a small compressor to make sure I can air-up if needed prior to leaving the house or campground, and I have a TPMS to keep a constant check on tire conditions while on the road.
