1. type tire
-Goodyear G670 19.5 LR G
2. age (years) of tire
-6 yrs old
3. where located (front, rear outside, etc.)
-PX rear, inside dual
4. cause if known
-Tread seperation, VERY HOT DAY
5. how did you change or get the tire changed. If with a roadside service company...were you satisfied with response and service?
-Good Sam Roadside. I-95 North in NC just south of VA border. Truck arrived within 40 mins, back on the road with spare installed 30 minutes after.
6. did the blow out cause you to lose control or an accident
-No, was able to lightly brake and pull onto break-down lane.
7. did the coach sustain damage?
-Yes, tread hit the inner wheel well, bent corner where mud flap attached, pulled wire bundles down, seperated/broke one single wire which happened to be start wire for generator..quick connector repair so I could start generator to run A/C's while waiting on repair. Later moved wire bundles up and out of the way and made permanent repair to gen/start wire.
9. Any other information you think might be 'educational' or of some benefit to a newbie.
-STAY CALM, think, brake slowly, hold your line, no erratic/abrupt moves unless absolutely necessary, get to side of road. REPLACE tires when needed, every 7-8 years, other than idiot drivers around you, tire blow-outs are probably biggest safety concern while driving an RV in my opinion.
