headliner dye or paint.

I am looking at some of the dyes and vinyl paints that are advertised as fabric paints. Has anyone used these or other products to redo a headliner. I want to re dye the bedroom of the MH about an 8' X 8' area. any advise from those that have experience is appreciated.
  • I've had good luck with SEM fabric spray paint. They have a full line of colors , and I'd bet you can find one that'll match pretty close
  • Experience??????? You bet. But it was a different time and a different product.
A Hot Rod magazine did an article about using a latex white paint to spiffy-up the headliner in the old fuzzy headliner cars. I went that route, first coat was a tragedy....followed by several more coats of tragic results.
First the headliner shrunk....not a bad thing, but only if it doesn't shrink to the point that it removes itself.
Second, some areas looked actually acceptable...but others looked like Hogans goat in a parade. Unless things have changed dramatically, I'd suggest you not go that route. Maybe someone can give you better advice with more modern day products.
