Headliner failure

I have seen RVs with what appears to be white indoor/outdoor carpet (no not grass) on the ceilings. my boat has it inside some compartments.

I think you are referring to OZITE: http://www.ozite.com/products/commercial/motor-home-rv/

go on Amazon. They sell 3M headliner spray on glue. It works great.

I think you take the old headliner down, scrape the foam material off. When the foam is off, spray with headliner (3M) glue and re-install the headliner fabric. Best to have a helper. Visit with some folks in the upholstery business.

What I fail to understand is why this guy has an 05 with a ceiling that is failing like this. Shame on the manufacturer.

I would assume that the inner fiberglass surface is not perfectly smooth nor will you get all of the foam/stuff off and you will end up with a trashy looking, bumpy mess. there is a good reason that they used the foam lining.

I had the same problem in my 95 Holiday Rambler Endeavor. Spots were dropping here and there. Same material with the foam on the back. Failure of the glue to hold is very common. We optained trim strips at Lowes. Painted them to match the strips installed by the Mfg every 5' or so, and put 2 on each side of those the length of the coach. We drilled and countersank screw holes and I even painted the screw heads to match.I think we mmight have pulled the liner tight here and there as we put them up. After we were done, couldn't tell that the liner had started drooping. Probably cost a $100 or so for all material. It was a 2 person job to do - one holding, one using the screw gun. I doubt if the glue will work, at least in Fl's heat it won't.

Google the problem, lots of info I found that way and probably lots of posts on here. Many of the posts had pics showing how they did it.

I used a butter knife to stretch and push back into the strip then used a paper stapler along the strip still staying up one year later

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I have emailed several places for sample materials. (Carpet type only, no more vinyl) I have removed the vinyl, starting 4 feet behind the front and all the way to the bulkhead past the sink (Aprox. 18 feet) I am now proceeding to scrape the foam from the ceiling panels. This is the tuffest part of the job so far. We will try to find a material that will compliment the vinyl that is still in place
