Heated compartments

I have a 2004 Southwind 37C. \I am planning to leave for Florida the first week in Jan. I have not winterized it yet since we will be leaving in just a couple of weeks and also because I just returned home from a trip to Florence, S.C. last weekend. I have been letting the house heaters run with the temp. switch set on 55 degrees. The temp outside has been down to 26 degrees near home. I am wondering which compartment is the house heater blowing warm air to when the heaters are running. I might need to place a small heater or a light bulb in other compartments. Thanks for any info.

rooster, you don't have heat where the water heater is located. Do you?

  • From 1986 until 2009, Fleetwood did an excellent job of heating all compartments with water in them, in their class A motorhomes. The new Fleetwood has not been as attentive. Your furnace should keep all compartments with water in them, above freezing to at least 10°F.
My 95 Bounder furnace will keep the compartments from freezing down to 0°F.

  • We kept a light on the water pump before we left. Of course we had drained the water lines. Had the furnace set at 33.
  • My Winnebago has heat in any compartment that has water lines in or around the compartment!
  • The only bay that needs to be kept warm is the wet bay - for tanks. I have a "blower" on/off toggle in that compartment. I am a fulltimer, never winterize, but travel from the northeast to Florida in late Dec. I put a temp sensor in the wet bay - keep the monitor on the dash - when the temps in the bay get near 32 I turn on the furnace.
  • Some gasoline coaches do not have basement heaters. I know my 2002 Coachmen Aurora I used to have did not have it. Now this diesel pusher has it to where the black and grey tanks are located.
  • When the heat is on, open the basement doors and see which ones have warm air in them.
  • My Pace Arrow only has heat to the compartments that have water tanks (fresh, grey and black).
It also has an area in the fresh water area with the water pump which is heated via a 12 volt lamp.
  • Normally only the utility compartment gets the heat.
