Heating problems with Damon Ultrasport

I have a 2000 Damon Ultrasport with a Cummings 5.9 (275hp) and 4 speed Allison. I am having heating problems when i drive in D. Any hill or any wind makes the temps climb to alarm levels. If I down shift to 4 and drop my speed to between 50 and 55 mph it cools off. If I pull over it drops immediatly. But as soon as I hit even a small incline in D it overheats.
Any ideas? Is this common? Is there a quick cheep fix

thanks
David

  • Outside may need cleaning, thermostat could be not opening fully.... Or clogged inside..
  • rear radiator?. If so can you can bet it needs cleaning. You can spray it good with simple green and spray water from a hose. I had to do my rear radiator several times to get it cleaner. Not sure I ever got it really clean. Mine was a cat and a cat service center pressure sprayed it. Really have to know what you are doing so it does not bend the fins on the coils with that pressure so usually not recommended that an owner take this approach.
