The compressor should stay off for a few minutes to allow the internal Freon pressure to drop. The outside temperature, and driving, can make a difference in cycle time. If they are cycling too fast, you should be able to increase the differential of the thermostat.
Should I be turning them to "on" instead of "auto" in order to avoid that?
