Snaps work really well, and won't degrade over time like Velcro.
We had to replace our curtain after years of child abuse, and it was pretty easy. Replacement snaps were available at a fabric store, along with the tool to seat them into the new fabric. Took me longer to measure out the spacing than it did to fit them into place... Just don't skip adding some good webbing along the edge where the snaps go. That's what ultimately takes all the abuse.
I like the shower curtain idea, but that seems like just one more thing to have to store and/or have come crashing down in our earthquake on wheels.
