I rarely raise my tag tires unless I'll be making several sharp 90 degree turns and tire wear on them is not an issue. You have four tires on the drive with more weight on them so in a tight turn the two tag tires are going to slide side ways, not the drive axle. Some Monaco owners leave the tag switch in the raise position as it will only raise when in R, 1st & 2nd. The tag automatically goes down once you shift into 3rd. This gives a 42' DP a better turning radius than a 40' DP as you have a shorter effective wheelbase.
My previous DP was a eight airbag 40' Beaver (RR8R) which handled well. My 42' Dynasty with the RR10S chassis (10 airbags and 10 shocks, but no sway bar) is best described as rock solid. Heavy cross winds and when passing a 18 wheeler is a non issue. I often put in 12-14 hour back to back days without getting tired as it handles that well. It is easy to oversteer something this long, but with practice you learn to barely move the steering wheel to keep it between the lines, even on a windy day. On a test drive you are going to want to oversteer it as it's much different than driving your PU. The new Monaco's are no longer using the outboard airbags, not that I will be replacing my 11 year old Dynasty.
The $$$$$ Foretravel, Newell and Prevost conversions all use 10 airbags... enough said.
