Parting it out would be an extensive, long, nightmare of a job. It would take you forever to get rid of all the old parts. I would pull the 454 out, have it rebuilt and punched out .030 over, slide it back in and then move on to the carpet. Getting the carpet OUT of the driver/passenger area was the worst part. There was a ton of staples and glue holding everything together. Pulling all the old staples was a tedious job, but my wife and I handled it and wasn't too bad. I bought the carpet at lowe's, it was probably about $125 for all the carpet. I picked a brownish/tan mix that hides dirt and dog hair well. The dog house was a challenge, have never done carpet before. I destroyed the other carpet peeling it off of the doghouse, it was ripped to shreds by the time I got it off. Lowe's sells a 3M spray glue that is damn good. We used it in the whole RV for putting down those peel and stick floor tiles. Worked perfect. So we started with a piece about 12" longer and wider than we though we would need. Don't worry about waste, you won't be wasting much. We stretched ours from front to back first, spraying and gluing down the center part about 6" at a time, until the front to back part was done. Then, we just started stretching it over the left and right side, same procedure. You have to look at the cuts closely a bunch of times before you pull the razor blade out. We made a few minor mistakes, but we just cut a little sliver here or there, glued it in and you'd never know, it looks totally professional/factory done. I will get some pictures taken this weekend and put them onto photobucket so you can see what it looks like.
