We have a 39 foot diesel pusher and it has lots of room. Since you will spending the summer in it, you do not want to feel closed in. I recommend getting one with opposing slides in the living room. That really opens up the space. We lived in ours for three months while our house was being built and we never felt closed in. We were worried about the small space but it was never a problem. I think it was because we have high ceilings and the opposing slides.
We always have a toad. We mostly stay in campgrounds but it is very nice to have the ability to boondock if you need to or want to. I have not felt unsafe in any of the places I have gone, but you need to use common sense. Being self contained, you can stop at lots of places over night if you need to. On our last long trip, we stayed overnight in Walmart parking lots for 2 nights. We normally stay in RV parks, but it had been raining hard for 4 days and the RV parks were really wet. We were worried about being stuck in our site since the parks around us did not have paved sites. It was nice to be able to pull into a Walmart and stay on pavement.
