Help?No overdrive!

1997 Winnebago Aventurer
Chevy 454

-back brakes fixed
-left for Florida this morning
-after crazy time at Detroit border (another story)
Brakes started squealing again..same as before brake job
-then as got on hwy rv wouldnt go into overdrive
-had to pull off and wait for about one hour then
-got on hwy and rv went into overdrive fine
-same problem from Florida last spring that led me to having brake job done
-as soon as brakes r used..hear sqealing starting...then
no overdrive

very hard to drive never using brakes
anyone have any insite as to what could be causing this?

    Sounds like your brakes are hanging up to the point that the ECM will not allow the transmission to go into overdrive.
    What kind of RPMs are showing? Are you using lots of fuel?
    Does your rig have drum or disc brakes on the rear?
    Were the calipers replaced?
    What about the rubber hoses? They could be collapsed causing the fluid not to return to master cylinder.

    average 2270 @ 65mph
    seems good fuel
    drum
    calipers, rubber hoses replaced

    Even though there is no engine check light on, go buy an O'reilly or Autozone parts store and have the computer checked for codes.
    Your RPM and mileage doesn't appear to be effected by hanging brakes. Only other brake hanging could be parking brake.
    Do you know if you have a parking brake in your drums or on the driveline?

    Think the parking brake is somehow connected to the transmission??
    when had transmission rebuilt 2 years ago, seem to remember mechanic saying that.

    I have one on transmision tailshaft. It Is connect thru the auto park system I am not sure what year Chev dropped the type I have.
    Doesn't show much info in my little Chev manual.

    We just escaped having the AutoPark feature because our left GM as a 14,800 rated chassis so I do not know if the parking brake can drag or where it is a total lock down.

    Is your ABS trouble light on? If it is, the ECM will refuse to engage overdrive.
