Hemi Engines

HEMI is a nametag not a style of engine; Chrysler Corp. stopped producing real Hemi engines in the 70s. The HEMi 5.7 is the same old 360 block that has been around a long time, they just do a good job of marketing the Hemi badge.

It's not that they're without an available engine with an 8.8 liter and if they do ever start up again, as stated here....

When Navistar International bought them out, they thought they had a winner with their own little in house front mounted Diesel, but we all know how long that lasted, with most all manufactures going with a Ford chassis.

The monopoly that Ford has on the class A chassis market blows my mind. There was talk a couple years ago of Chevy getting back in with some very impressive gas motors but it fizzled out.

The Hemi engines would seem to be a great fit. I do see them trickling into some tow trucks and flatbed trucks so who knows. But for the foreseeable future it's Ford V10 only. The Ford V10 is a great engine but the HP and torque ratings being produced are pretty "ho-hum". I don't understand why my 7000# Hemi gets 410HP and the Ford V10 to haul a huge class A only churns out 330HP. I think the Ford may put out a couple more lb/ft of torque than my Hemi which is 430.

It seems the market is ripe for a 450+HP/500+ torque gas engine in a class A chassis. The engine technology is there and there are a lot of RVs selling these days. I've been casually looking at class A coaches for a couple years but am pretty happy with my 5th wheel. A better gas power plant would sure be nice. I can't justify/afford a diesel pusher yet with my weekend and summer use.
