  • Assuming you have enough metal left surrounding the hole you really would not want to put tape around anything as road spray and debris will likely give the repair a very short life span. You can use some caulk around the new hole and cover the entire area with an appropriate size of sheet metal. Screw the new metal to the existing box and you are done with this repair for the life of the RV. If the area gets hot during operation then be sure to use a heat rated caulking.

Scratch the Duct tape it is NOT designed for that job and the heat will dry the adhesive and it will fall off.

Muffler Tape (The metal tape with high temp adhesive) can be used

But it must be high temp adhesive.
  • That is aluminium tape over galvanized manifold.
New galvanized metal should be washed with water/vinegar mix.

    Don't use Duct Tape...

Check out this short video....>>>Repairing Duct Work<<<

That is a good first step but after you use the foil tape, coat everything with the brushable latex duct seal that will keep the tape from peeling and the leaking.
  • To be sure it holds, use sheet metal screws to secure it and then follow with duct tape.
  • Ditto on Gorilla tape.
On metal duct you can use aluminium tape what will last very long time.

I would not use regular duct tape. It just doesn't last. The glue dries out and it falls apart.

I would use that silver type duct tape (maybe that's what you mean't) or gorilla tape.

    Safe travels,
    MM.

  • A piece of insulated sheet metal air duct should be able to be put in to place to repair the hole. Check with a local heat and AC shop and they may have some scrap duct laying around.
