Honda Elite 110 Scooter Carrier

I have a versahaul VH sport, that I carry my big ruckus on. Little pricy but top quality, The one I have can also tow up to 3000lb with scooter onboard. I might add, I don't drive the jeep with the scoot loaded, I use it for towing only. I also had a truck fabricator welding shop reinforce my receiver hitch by welding two steel plates that tie the hitch to the bumper also for added support. He recommended it because of the unibody frame. My BR weighs 386ibs. With practice it is a one man operation to load and unload.

I use this one for my 240# Vespa. Works fine. I added bolts between the angle brackets so the smaller wheels would roll easier.

Hi Shelley, I use a motorcycle carrier on the back of my Coachmen class C. The one I have is not made anymore but this one(link) is real close to what I have. It does weigh close to 100 pounds, so I lift mine with a floor jack to put it into the receiver hitch. I like that the 2 inch end that goes into the receiver is solid, not square hollow tubing. This part takes the most load. I have hauled my Honda Big Ruckus many miles with no problems. As far as loading and un loading, you can position your vehicle by a hill or curb to make the ramp not as steep as on a flat surface.

I use a Travelrite Travelrack Link and I'm very happy with it. For some reason the spec says it weighs #75 but actual is #35, much lighter than my buddy's VersaHaul. Two features I really like on this rack. It has a center strap attachment so there are no outriggers and it has a really simple and clever anti wobble device. The rack can be assembled facing either way if the spare clearance has to do with the handlebars.

I use it on my Honda as is but the MH has a rear spare so I have a hitch extension with a riser for more ground clearance. You can order a ramp but I had one of these and you can make it as long as you want. Loading from a curb makes it easier, too.

If the rack you got is the Harbor Freight type that looks like a ladder, you can put a plywood insert in the center so you don't have to bump over the cross pieces.

Thanks for the responses. I am still debating my options but may tow the scooter from here(South Fl) to Mobile behind my Jeep on a Uhaul trailer and just buy a carrier for my Coachman camper. Seems like the spare on the Jeep is a problem.

VersaHaul is well worth it.

shelleyholden - We tried hauling a motorcycle on an open trailer. Did not like the idea of it being out in the open and always getting road grime splashed on it.

Then tried a receiver hitch to haul a 150cc Honda Elite. That worked a little better, but still not quite what we wanted. Being in view of possible thieves, partially blocking the rear door, and difficult to keep the scooter from rocking because of the slightly smaller tongue in the reciever.

Found our best solution is a small enclosed fiberglass trailer. Hidden from view, always clean, extra hauling space, can be pulled by our car if need be.

The other thing to watch with a receiver hitch hauler is the weight transfer. The see-saw effect of that weight behind the rear axle.

Why can't you carry a 150 CC Honda Elite on the front?

Much better weight distribution for a Class C with the scooter in the front and no dust/dirt to speak of unless following someone too close on non-paved roads.

(Our Ford V10 Class C so far has such great cooling that I can't imagine a little scooter in front would bother it a bit.)

I was worried about road grime when I bought my Versa-Haul. I contaced the dealer that sold me the scooter for a cover. I was told that the cover would cause more damage to the scooter than the road wear.

Too bad you don't live closer to Middle Tennessee because I'd let my Versa-Haul go for half price and it's like new. I just switched to a Jeep toad.
