There is a mixing valve on the back of the heater that can get clogged up or become defective and will cause this symptom. We just removed the mixing valve and it solved our problems. However, you need to be careful because you now have become the mixing valve!
Atwood has about 10 different 10 gallon models. The Model the Poster stated is NOT a mixing valve model, but a straight standard water heater. YOUR model if it has a mixing valve is designated by the XT in the model number. YOURS is a 10 gallon that actually produces 16 gallons of hot water due to the mixing valve. Doug
